Sout Korea’s auto exports down ۱.۶% in Feb.

Asre Khodro: The number of South Korean cars shipped overseas fell ۱.۶ percent on-year in February due to weaker demand for sedans and a smaller number of business days, government data showed on March ۱۴.

Reporting "Asre Khodro", According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, automakers here shipped ۱۶۰,۴۴۲ cars overseas last month, with their value estimated at $۲.۸ billion. The North American market bought $۱ billion worth, up ۱۲.۴ percent from a year earlier, while the European Union accounted for $۶۴۳ million, up ۲.۹ percent.
Shipments to the Middle East stood at $۲۹۹ million, down ۸.۴ percent over the cited period, with other European countries taking up $۲۴۹ million, a rise of ۱۲.۱ percent. The Asian market purchased $۱۷۷ million worth, up ۲۰.۷ percent.

By company, Hyundai Motor saw its exports drop ۶.۴ percent on falling demand for compact and smaller cars like its Avante and Accent.

The overseas shipments of Hyundai’s smaller sister firm Kia Motors rose ۱۵.۶ percent over the cited period on the back of compact sport utility vehicles such as the new Soul Booster.

GM Korea and SsangYong Motor saw their vehicle exports decline ۱۰.۷ percent and ۵.۸ percent, respectively, on-year in the month.

The numbers for Renault Samsung Motors nose-dived ۳۶.۱ percent due to suspended shipments to Iran.
