Tehran Municipality Denies Buying Subway Train Wagons from China

Asre Khodro: "In recent days, a report has been sent (by Tehran's municipality) to the (Iranian parliament's Article ۹۰) Commission which completely rejects striking a deal to buy subway train wagons from China," Rapporteur of the Commission Mostafa Afzali Fard said on Sunday.

Tehran Municipality Denies Buying Subway Train Wagons from China

Reporting “Asre Khodro” quoted from Fars, His remarks came after a number of Iranian legislators protested at an alleged deal between Tehran’s Municipality and Chinese companies on the purchase of wagons for Tehran’s subway system.

Afzali Fard said the report by Tehran’s Municipality mentioned that “since Iran is self-sufficient in building wagons and the quality of the Iranian products is high, striking a deal with China was not at all needed”.

Iran’s Wagon Pars Company has the capacity to build train wagons for domestic use and it also exports excess products to other countries.

The company has so far exported cargo wagons to Syria, Sudan and Cuba as well as passenger wagons to Bangladesh and China.

The company’s products can compete with those of China, Russia, Ukraine and other target markets.
